Prominence Security has the ability to deploy armed officers as well as unarmed officers throughout Maryland. However, it is important to note that Armed Security Officers and unarmed officers have the same statutory and legal Authority in throughout the state. Armed Security Officers, however, do carry firearms while on duty.  

Our officers, whether armed or unarmed, do have the ability to affect arrests in certain situations, which is known as "arrest authority."  This means that our officers can take a suspect into custody when:

1. there is a felony being committed in his presence 
2. a felony has been committed whether or not in his presence, and the person/arrester has probable cause to believe the person he arrested committed the felony 
3. there is a misdemeanor being committed in the presence or view of the person/arrester pertaining to a breach of the peace. Breach of the peace signifies disorderly, dangerous conduct disruptive of the public peace.

Please note - merely because an officer can effect an arrest, does not mean that he will.  Officers use their discretion, and like any other tool, the ability to arrest must be used carefully, and not in all situations. 

Armed officers and unarmed officers are licensed by the Maryland State Police, and must maintain security certification throughout the course of their employment. Armed security guards must qualify annually with their firearms.

All of our security personnel, unarmed security officers as well as armed security officers, must also receive and maintain proficiency with all of their non-lethal defensive implements.

Prominence Security can deploy our security personnel in the event that your fire alarm goes down or becomes disabled for any reason. The rules of fire watch are determined by local government, usually the county, and are enforced by the local fire marshal. Often times, this means that a fire watch team must be assembled and deployed, to take the place of the fire alarm system while it is down. In many buildings, this means one officer, around the clock, until the alarm is repaired. 

However, in residential buildings, especially high-rise residential buildings, this can mean as many as one officer every other floor!

Fire watches can be planned, or on an emergency-basis. Planned fire watches take place when the system goes down for routine maintenance or replacement, and we have a team ready to go and in place. In emergency situations, sometimes after a fire, the watch must be started immediately, at any time of the day.  This can take a few days to get to full operational staffing. 

Firewatch personnel are responsible for being a living, breathing fire alarm, while the mechanical system is not operational. This means that the firewatch officers will patrol their given area, looking for fires, smoke, and unsafe conditions. In the event a fire, the firewatch personnel will raise the alarm, and will evacuate all residents and guests as well as summoning the fire department.

Firewatch officers are required to sign in and out, and to maintain logs as required by specific municipalities. This paperwork will remain on site, and be available for inspection by the fire marshal and property management at any time.
